Koh Tao has always hosted a nice party scene, not just on the beach but also in some of the more private areas around the island, especially after the full moon. Look out for the poster around the island including the Blue Moon Festival hosted 4 days after every full moon.
The most popular area to hang out at night is the beach and many resorts have built up around this area so it can be quite noisy. What I recommend is to think about this if you wish not to party all night and want to catch up with some sleep.
Many tourists have experienced this problem and after choose to look for accommodation a little away from the beach.
